Dry Eye Morning Routine

Daily Morning Routine for Dry Eyes

What does your morning routine currently look like? You wake up, you jump in the shower and you pour yourself a coffee, ready for the day ahead. However, if you find yourself waking up in the morning with dry eyes then you should really consider adding in a good morning eye care routine.

There are multiple reasons why your dry eye symptoms could be worse when you wake up in the morning. These include a reduction in tear quality overnight, nocturnal lagophthalmos and certain medical conditions. You can read more about these factors hereGiving your eyes some love and attention in the morning will allow you to manage your symptoms and maximise your comfort throughout the day.

So, what should a daily morning eye routine for dry eyes look like? You want something that is quick and simple but still effective at providing relief. The good news it that the One Stop Dry Eye Shop offers all products you need to create your own routine, including:

- Eye washes/foams and eyelid wipes;
- Eye drops;
- Eye gels; and
- Eye compresses/night masks.

Here is an example of what your daily morning dry eye care routine could look like. This can be amended to best suit your needs and the time you have available.

Step 1: Use a Compress

As soon as you wake up, microwave a warm compress and apply this to your eyes for 5-15 minutes. This is a relaxing way to wake up and to ensure your eyes are moistened after your sleep. The warmth helps to stimulate oil gland secretions, which can enhance tear film stability and reduce dryness (read more about this here).

It is best to use a compress that covers your entire eyes for maximum relief. We recommend using either the DERM Dry Eye Relief Mask or the Tranquileyes XL Mask.

Step 2: Use a Cleanser

Using a cleanser is a great way to ensure the dirt and debris that has built up overnight is washed away and your eyes are clean to start the day. Blephadex, Ocusoft Original, Ocusoft Plus, Ocusoft Platinum or Tranquileyes 1% or 2% are all great options to use, depending on your eye care needs. They can either be left on or washed off after a short amount of time (such as the time taken to brush your teeth or get a shower).

Alternatively, you can use an eyelid wipe and we have a great variety including Blephadex with Tea Tree Oil & Coconut Oil, Blephadex Pro with Manuka Honey, Ocusoft Original & Ocusoft Plus.

Step 3: Use an Eye Drop

Your eyes should be nice and clean now, so the last step is to use a lubricating eye drop to immediately moisten your eyes and prevent dryness. This is important to combat the dryness that can develop throughout the day and help provide relief. We recommend using either the Optimel Manuka Honey or Nova Tears Omega 3 drops, as both are super lubricating and an excellent option to start the day.

Your morning eye care routine does not have to be long or complicated, but it is vital in managing the symptoms of dry eyes throughout the day. By incorporating these simple steps into your morning routine, you can help effectively manage dry eye symptoms and you will be able to feel the difference in no time at all!
